AMIDS Skills Study Published

As AMIDS continues to engage with advanced manufacturers and progresses towards its first physical developments, Skills Development Scotland and West College Scotland have consulted with a variety of stakeholders, including key sector local employers, to provide a snapshot of current skills and benchmark this against skills demand, skills gaps, and labour needs.

The resulting report highlights Glasgow’s skilled and significant workforce, while also providing an insight into talent attraction and skills requirements, criteria that are business critical in considering where to inwardly invest and expand high value manufacturing operations. The report acknowledges the challenges that employers with specialist skills needs face and in response, it outlines ten clear opportunities to help address these issues and ensure that the region remains a prime location for high-value investment and business growth.

The AMIDS Strategic Advisory Group, comprising a range of public sector and academic stakeholders together with the joint venture partner Buccleuch Property, is actively exploring how the AMIDS support ecosystem, together with specific programmes, can be tailored to boost skills opportunities to support advanced manufacturers. Key to this are West Scotland College, University of Strathclyde, the Skills Academy within NMIS and CPI’s MMIC, and Skills Development Scotland.
